A Beautiful lavender farm is everyone’s dream. Here’s how to set up your own lavender garden that will be both beautiful and healthy for you and the environment.

Start with a good soil to prevent erosion. Amend it with compost if needed, till the dirt until clumps are formed when squeezed together in your hand. Make sure there are no rocks or any other hard objects on the soil.

Drainage is important so dig holes every 10 to 15 feet on the area that will be tilled. Bury at least half of a hose into each hole to act as drainage channels. Fill the holes with water, it should flow away from your yard, if not then amend your topsoil with compost or garden soil.

In the area where you will have your lavender, dig up a hole and pour some compost in it. Put your baby plants in the holes and water them well. Water every other day for about a month so they can adjust to being planted into soil, then after that just once or twice a week will suffice.

The best time to plant lavender is in the fall and winter. But if you can’t wait until then, don’t worry it will grow fine! Just make sure to water them well so they won’t die from lack of nutrients or dehydration.

Treat your plants with a fertilizer that is rich in potassium such as cottonseed meal. Don’t put too much of it though because potassium could be toxic for plants.

You can also add mulch to prevent weeds from growing and retain moisture in the soil. Mulching will make a cool ground cover to walk on, don’t forget to keep it neat and tidy. Keep your yard clean! This means no animals or people walking through your lavender garden.

Keep your lavender out of the reach of animals and other people. If someone were to cut a branch from your beautiful lavender, you could lose it forever! Also, don’t let animals eat them as they can be toxic for pets as well as humans. Be safe rather than sorry…
